At Hope and Play, we believe that every child has the right to safely play, learn and grow in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding. We are an organisation dedicated to helping add hope and play to the lives of children who are denied these most basic rights.

We do this by building playgrounds so they can have places to play safely, by buying textbooks, laptops, and other educational materials to help create opportunities and give them hope in a future that they can have some control over. We work with local communities and organisations to get these to the right people and places. We’ve taken several thousand traumatised children through psychosocial and trauma therapy to help them back into mainstream society. We have also occasionally undertaken specific peaceful and legal actions to support them where there is an immediate humanitarian need.

Our areas of operation are the villages and refugee camps under occupation in the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Our goal is to inject more hope and fun into these children’s lives, especially where much of the environment around them may deny them both. If you believe this is important, please feel free to support by donations or by emailing us with fundraising ideas or support for a children’s initiative in our areas of operation.

Hope and Play is registered with Companies House in the UK as a company limited by guarantee. We are registered as a charity with the UK Charities commission, and our charity number is 1125609.

Our trustees are Tony RahmanSaskia Marsh and Iyas AlQasem. Tony, who is of Bangladeshi extraction, is Director of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Saskia is a former UN official who has worked in Gaza, Kosovo and Lebanon, seen first hand the impact of conflict on children and witnessed how well-executed projects can help transform lives. Iyas, who is a Palestinian Brit, left his role as a senior executive in a Fortune 500 company to start a consultancy to embed values and purpose into business.

All donations to the charity go directly to children’s projects. The founders cover our administrative costs, to ensure that donations from the public do not get spent on the charity itself.

You can contact us directly by email at [email protected]. You can also call 020 8133 7338, though we do not man this directly.
