Play. It’s one of the most fundamental rights of any child. And in peaceful countries, there’s nowhere better to see this in action than in a playground.
Sadly, in the occupied Palestinian territories, play is often much more difficult than it should be. That is why we have undertaken playground projects. The playgrounds are always built in collaboration with a local organisation, be it a school, a community centre or a municipality, so that maintenance, upkeep and monitoring are in the hands of the local community. Where possible, we use locally sourced materials and labour – in Gaza, with Israel’s blockade, that was not only the best, but probably the only option.
