Background to this program:
*
In Gaza, two out of three children suffer from psychological trauma and mental health issues, primarily marked by an inability to concentrate and a reluctance to communicate.
*
These challenges are not solely due to conflict and aerial attacks but are also a result of displacement, bereavement, home demolitions, the COVID-19 pandemic, and extreme poverty.
*
Unfortunately, child-centric and age-appropriate psychosocial support services are scarce and underfunded in Gaza, leaving these vulnerable children without proper help.
*
The absence of immediate psychosocial and educational assistance perpetuates mental health problems and emotional damage into adulthood, consequently impacting Palestinian society and influencing the next generation of parents.
*
Which is where Hope and Play, and YOU come in. Thanks to the generous support of organizations and general people, we can support the setting up of programs to try to address these issues as much as possible.
*
n 2022, the Canaan Institute for New Pedagogy, supported by UK registered charity Hope and Play, received grants and donations with the goal of improving the lives of 200 vulnerable children in Middle and North Gaza who have been severely impacted by trauma caused by four wars in the Gaza Strip since 2008 and the persistent poverty resulting from a fifteen-year siege.
*
Many of these children had withdrawn from education and were struggling to keep up with their learning. They urgently required additional informal community-based learning support to help them catch up on essential subjects such as Literacy, Numeracy, English, Arabic, and Science.
