Glaswegian Bring and Buy Sale Nets over £2,500 for Gaza’s Children
Mandy got in touch with us at the end of July, and innocuously announced that she was organising a bring and buy sale in Glasgow to support Gaza’s traumatised children during the intense Israeli bombardment that they were under.
She had tremendous local support. Prizes donated included
- A bespoke days sailing trip for a party of six aboard The Eastend Endeavour yacht;
- Two haircuts donated by Leigh Ferguson;
- A dinner for two with house wine at Guy’s in Merchant City;
- A package of hand-crafted Belgian chocolates made by Lesley Hoyle;
- A 60 minute Swedish massage from The Swedish Massage Company;
- A huge brand new cuddly toy from “Glaswegians Helping Gaza” member Kirsty Macqueen;
- A meal for two in Stereo;
- A £50.00 voucher for AyeAye books;
- A special treat for two at The Brunswick, Merchant City, and another at Brutti Compadre Merchant City.
In addition, they auctioned a comedy gig from remarkable comedian Gary Little, with the words “Bid for Gary to come and sit on your couch and be very funny indeed”, and artwork including Jason E Bowman’s which he described in this video.
And WAAAAAY toooooooo many donated things for sale to mention. The photos will give you an idea of quite how much this formidable crew managed to organise and sell.
In the end, on a 15th August day that looked like it was a complete blast, just over £2,500 was raised, and ALL remnants found other good homes in local charities, so nothing went to waste.
Thank you to everyone who participated in, came to visit, bought, voiced support, donated their time, skill or property. And mostly, thank you to Mandy and the team who seemed to be working furiously with her to put it all together. The funds are being included in our next Gaza500 project – a programme to get 500 heavily traumatised children from 5 remote Gaza communities back into mainstream education and society. We completed the first of these early on in the year, and are currently fundraising for the next 500. This will make a serious dent into the £15,000 needed to get the project under way.
