Jennifer celebrates her 80th with Gaza’s children
Jennifer has been a long-time supporter of ours. She decided to celebrate her 80th birthday with a party for children […]
Gaza’s children have had it very hard by most accounts. Most are descended from areas in the South of Israel from which their parents or grandparents were expelled. In Gaza, generations lived under occupation by Israel, and although Israel withdrew its settlements from Gaza, it still occupies the land with a crippling siege which causes no end of humanitarian crises. As though this were not enough, Gaza’s population was then invaded and near carpet-bombed over Christmas and New Year of 2008 / 09, with over 1500 deaths and countless injuries and traumas caused. Of those killed, over 400 were children. The traumatisation continues with regular air raids by Israel, as well as sniper activity on the borders of Gaza.
Gaza’s children as a result suffer from severe trauma issues, malnourishment, poverty and disability. And yet, they are some of the most beautiful and playful children you’ll meet. At Hope and Play, much of our work has been focussed on efforts to bring some semblance of childhood to the children of Gaza – play, education, support for disability and trauma, and clothing. Please support our work there by donating or fundraising.
Here is some of the activity that Hope and Play has undertaken, projects and fundraising, in support of Gaza’s children.
