Last month, Ingatestone, a small village in Essex, witnessed its first ever charity bake-off to find the best village baker. Natalie, the organiser, kindly sent us in this report.

“The 23 categories to enter included ‘the weird and the wonderful’, ‘healthy’, and ‘traditional’. A significant number of local businesses supported the event, chipping in with gifts and services for the raffle. The local bakers and deli supported us by volunteering to be our judges for the day.”

“When the doors opened up at the coal community centre local villagers, brought along their cakes with a £5 donation per cake. After careful judging they decided on the 3 winners and presented them with a cake stand, certificate and bottle of bubbles, all donated by local shops .”

“The winning cake was a white chocolate and orange cake with the runner up being a Rainbow cake. The cakes were then cut up and sold off with tea,  coffee and other treats.”

“In total the event raised £250 and was covered in the local press and A boards in the village raining awareness of the charity.”

Thank you so much, Natalie and the bakers of Ingatestone. Your fine efforts will take 8 heavily traumatised children in marginalised areas of Gaza through workshops and interventions to help get them back into education and society.
