Are you thinking of doing a fundraising event for Hope and Play, but don’t quite know where to get started? Here are some fundraising tips from our supporters.

Our amazing supporters

We are so grateful for all the amazing supporters who host events and undertake challenges to help raise funds for our work. Over the course of the past year, many long-time and new supporters have put on some absolutely incredible events. Every penny of the money raised from these events goes to our emergency support work in Gaza.

Earlier this year a group of superstar women organised an auction, and evening of music and poetry on behalf of Hope and Play, raising an amazing £10,000 for us in the process.

They have created 11 top fundraising tips for anyone thinking of organising a fundraiser for Hope and Play.

Fundraising tips

  • Celebrate your diversity! Get a team together of diverse people with different skills sets and contacts. Everyone will have something to add to the event
  • Think through the key skills you need. Graphic design and communications are key for promotion
  • Nominate a manager. From your group, have 1-2 people who have overall sight of and responsibility for your event. They will manage and delegate tasks to get things done.
  • Use your local networks. Think of friends who are business owners and ask if they will promote your event on their channels.
  • Leverage Hope and Play content. Use the Hope and Play website and social media accounts to get updates on Hope and Play’s work and share it to make your audience aware of their work and to see what impact their donations are having.
  • Be organised! Make lists, spreadsheets, and have regular meetings with the organising team to check on progress and delegate tasks.
  • Make sure you save the date. Send out a save the date flyer ahead of your event so people are aware of it. Keep posting about it regularly using your social media channels.
  • Make use of your social networks. Use any relevant local groups you are part of to promote your event – whether they are online or offline. Local mums groups are always great places to start!
  • Send your invites early. Make sure get ticket sales open or invites out a month before your event, but don’t worry if no one buys them until the last week/day.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask favours! People can always say no, but they are more likely to find a way to help if they can.

And finally…

  • Back to diversity… Think of other ways to raise money: you could run a raffle or auction, or sell items like tote bags or mugs. If you can’t get raffle prizes, who do you know that has a skill or can offer experience in something eg art class, DJ session?
